On March 7, Representative Peter King, Chairman of the House Committee of Homeland Security, will initiate hearings on what he calls "the radicalization of the American Muslim community." He claims that 80% of mosques are "controlled by radical imams", and adds that "there are too many mosques in this country."
In response, faith leaders and laity of the Islamic, Jewish and Christian traditions will gather for a Pray-In outside Representative King’s office. Our purpose is to show solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters, to stand shoulder to shoulder in the belief that our country is founded on religious tolerance. On Washington’s Birthday, let us honor him by implementing his words:
“May the children of the Stock of Abraham, who dwell in this land, continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other Inhabitants; while every one shall sit in safety under his own vine and fig tree, and there shall be none to make him afraid. ...”
