In his first television ad this political season, Larry Kissell relies on folksy charm and pocketbook issues.
The Democratic challenger for the 8th Congressional District stresses high gas prices, the loss of textile jobs and the war in Iraq. He blames those problems on the Republican incumbent he hopes to unseat.
“During Robin Hayes’ tenure in Congress, gas has gone up almost $3 a gallon,” Kissell says in the ad. “We’ve lost over 60,000 jobs, and we are stuck in a mismanaged war in Iraq. He’s had his chance. We can’t afford two more years of this.”
The 34-second ad first appeared Tuesday in TV markets across the district, from Fayetteville to Charlotte. Kissell wears a casual shirt while standing inside a barn in front of a red tractor.
Kissell and Hayes are facing off again in a race that is expected to garner money and attention from the national parties. In 2006, Hayes beat Kissell by 329 votes.
