Gaston County is in McHenry's district. They had Diebold paperless touchscreens in 2004, and non of the precincts poll books matched the numbers of ballots cast. The machines were damaged in a flood of the basement area some time after the Nov 04 election. In 2006, Gaston went all paper ballot optical scan.
Some pretty lame attempts at voter confusion. Callers claiming to be election officials asking the voter if they received their absentee ballot yet and asking them how they voted. People claiming to be from "Choice America." telling voters that if they received their voter registration card, "their vote has already been cast and they don't need to vote on Election Day." Lame lame lame! Odds are you won't need any ID to vote -and other voting myths October 20, 2008 - 6:14PM

Voter scam alertsThe Gaston County Board of Elections is also warning residents to be aware of apparent voter scams - and just plain misinformation - that have been reported in Gaston County and elsewhere in the state.
Pinion said a resident reported to her last week that someone claiming to be from the Gaston County elections office had called and asked if the resident had received an absentee ballot in the mail. When the resident said yes, the caller asked who they had voted for, Pinion said.
Anyone who receives such a call is asked to report it to the local elections office (704-852-6005) and record the number from caller ID, if possible.
"No one from this office would be calling anyone and asking them how they voted," Pinion said.
Another warning was issued from state elections officials. Residents have reported being called by someone who says they are with "Choice America."
The caller reportedly assures residents that if they received a voter identification card in the mail, their vote has already been cast and they don't need to vote on Election Day.
