I want a new bank
separate from my controlling, dysfunctional husband who pisses away his money on booze and has his money at B of A.

Does anyone know anything about Crescent State Bank or First Citizens? Until I can find a permanent job and set up direct deposit, I'd prefer a B&M bank (as opposed to an online bank like Ally). Or am I better off just putting money under the mattress?

Thanks! :hi: By the way, I'm in N.W. Raleigh.

1. NC SECU if you can get it, a family member or roommate has to be a member first.

2. Oh, I would love to be a member of a credit union.
It's just not doable right now. :(

10. The durham office is two blocks away from where I work and I've never heard of it.
I'll mention it to anyone not with a credit union.

3. We're members of Allegacy Federal Credit union
Good place to bank. We don't work and have never worked for Reynolds Tobacco who started the CU, but they took us and have been good to us over the last 8-9 years we've been with them. Left BBT after getting gouged one time too many, same with Wachovia, although our college son is with Wachovia, student account etc...I have a friend that works/manages a First Citizen Branch and they seem pretty good, but that's just from knowing a firend...Good luck.

5. It looks like I might go with First Citizens
I'm in Raleigh, and Allegacy does not have any branches or ATMs here. Thanks for your response! :hi:

4. I would go with First Citizens....
I follow bank ratings on Bauer Financial, where ratings supposedly cannot be "bought", and First Citizens has had 5 stars (highest rating) for quite some time. I bank with them. Crescent Bank has 3 stars.

Of course the rating system is no guarantee, but there's not much else to rely on these days.....

Best of luck to you!

Mikita

6. I bank with Crescent.....
Im pretty happy with them so far. Much happier than I was with Wachovia. My biggest complaint so far is if you are having a problem with your debit card or something outside of business hours, you are just SOL since there is no 24/7 customer service.

9. Well, I had a weird experience with First Citizens
I had a seat in the lobby and waited for someone to approach me, and no one did! It's been so long since I've opened an account -- are you supposed to stand in the teller line?

I felt so stoopit, I finally just left!

I tried again on Saturday, and realized they are not opened. I'll get an account one of these days! :D

12. I switched from BOA to RBC. BOA told me to stuff it when I wanted to refinance
RBC was great. They helped me every step of the way.
