Wilson child killed in accidental shooting
Source: wral.com

Wilson, N.C. — A 3-year-old Wilson boy accidentally shot and killed himself Saturday, authorities said Sunday.

The shooting occurred at about 11 a.m. at 1308 Rountree St.

Wilson County deputy Marcus Ruffin is the boy's legal guardian, authorities said, but it was unclear whether the boy shot himself with Ruffin's county-issued weapon.

that this ever happens breaks my heart. how does a 3-year-old get close enough to a loaded gun to kill himself?

2. This is tragic.
It looks like this might be a case of deadly carelessness on the part of the deputy/guardian. Yesterday was rough day for Wilson - the city was hit hard by tornadoes by and this tragedy.

3. I hope that this is very thoroughly investigated.
Most police issued sidearms these days are Glock handguns. Glocks don't have an external safety switch, but they do have a very long, heavy trigger pull, to prevent unintended firing. It would probably be hard for a 3 year old to set off casually.

4. It's starting to appear
That far too many people are just too fucking stupid to own guns. I don't give a fuck what the percentage of accidental gun deaths to rat bites are. Every accidental gun death is one too many.

5. Don't tread on my gun rights!
Edited on Sun Apr-17-11 11:15 AM by whoneedstickets
no price it to high to pay to protect my gun fetish.

Just wanted to get this in because there is apparently some pro-gun moderator with a VERY quick trigger. The most protected class on DU seems to be the gun rights crowd.

6. I'd say the most protected class on DU are the PETA people.

7. I'd say it's the coopers
stupid coopers always mouthing off about the difference between barrels and casks. And the moderators never single them out to make an example.
