Four found shot to death on side of road in RTP

DURHAM -- Three women and a man were found shot to death just before midnight Friday in Durham County, and sheriff's detectives are investigating the possibility of murder-suicide.

Deputies found the women's bodies inside a Honda Accord in the westbound lane of N.C. 54 at the intersection of Park Office Drive in Research Triangle Park, according to investigators. They had been shot multiple times.

The man's body was found on the ground beside the car, sheriff's Capt. Don Ladd said. A handgun was near his body, but not in the car.

The identities of the four were not being released Saturday night. Sheriff's Lt. Stan Harris said detectives are still trying to contact family members to notify them of the deaths and are awaiting autopsy results from the state medical examiner, which are expected Monday.

Ladd said one of the dead women was behind the steering wheel, one was in the passenger seat and a third was in the back seat.
