What's your opinion about unions not attending the 2012 Democratic Convention in Charlotte?
Personally, I can understand why they are put off with the DNC in general. DC leadership hasn't really given them a reason to come in the last two years. I think us being a RtW state :puke: is just the icing on the cake, not a major cause. Yeah, I wish things were different, but that's going to take time.
I'm with the person in LBN who said they are missing a teachable moment.
If they aren't here to introduce themselves as themselves, not RW cartoons of labor folks, then most in NC who are not politically minded as we are will not get the opportunity to meet real live human beings who are sane and rational and well meaning. I would think coming to have a positive presence and in the process dispel some popular myths about unions would be worth it despite squabbles with Dem leadership.
edit: It works the other way too. The Unions would get a chance to realize not everyone here is a fire-breathing RW dragoon. There are people here they can work with.
And Charlotte would be a hell of a place to do it too. Second only to NYC in financial services, Charlotte's personality is way more button-down than here in the Triangle or Asheville.
But I could be wrong.
What are your thoughts?
