'Occupy Greensboro' is modeled on the platform of 'Occupy Wall Street' where participants protest perceived inequities of the country's economic and political systems.
According to the group's website, people will gather at the Government Plaza at 3 pm and march past the International Civil Rights Center, Bank of America, and end at Festival Park. Event organizers are stressing that this is to be a peaceful demonstration. "Our goal is to maintain safety throughout the city by facilitating the demonstrators' right to peacefully assemble and exercise free speech," explained Holder.
Businesses in downtown Greensboro are expected to have normal operating hours this weekend. While downtown, residents and guests are asked to follow the instructions of the police officers as they provide traffic and crowd control.
Officers will also provide guidance to demonstrators as needed in an effort to ensure that the demonstrations are safe, peaceful and within the law. Motorists who do not have downtown as their destination are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid increased vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
