Talented Dems Under 40
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 06:12 PM by LocalDem
Hey Guys! I run a new 527 devoted to supporting young candidates in state and local offices. I did some research on NC dems today and wondered your thoughts on these folks. Are they under 40? Are they progressive? Are they talented, do they have a future?

Rep. Paul Miller
Rep. Jim Harrell III
Rep. Eric Miller Reeves
Rep. Jennifer Weiss

Sen. Scott Thomas

What do you think?

Am I missing any good ones? Any local officeholders under 40 you like a lot?

Thanks!!
Bill

Or Janet Cowell?

3. They both have very bright futures.
Janet has shown a steadfast resolve to protect the environment, as the former political head of the local Sierra Club. Her resume is quite impressive. She went from the Raleigh city council to the NC Senate last year. Check out JanetCowell.com for more.

Grier is a Paul Hackett type of guy, who comes from a family with a history in NC politics. He ran a successful race against a repug incumbent to make it to the NC House last year, running on traditional Democratic issues. His dad is D.G. Martin, a former VP of the UNC system and candidate for US Senate (defeated by John Edwards.) He has a website which has unfortunately been neglected since the election at griermartin.com.

I'll never forget when Grier Martin rang my doorbell the week before the election and asked for my vote--all by himself! I was flabbergasted. No handlers, no spin doctors, just him--"here's my platform, and I want your vote." I assured him he had my vote, and encouraged him to keep pounding the pavement so he could talk to as many people as possible. I was proud to put his sign in my yard immediately.

Janet and Grier are both excellent young NC Democrats, and deserve our support.

5. You're more than welcome.
And thanks for the work you're doing--I think it's very important. Best of luck!
