1. There is a book you can check in your library called "The best doctors"

They are graded by other doctors so it is pretty reliable.

what issue/disease are you dealing with, or what set of symptoms? There are neurologists that specialize in different neurological disorders, and I can recommend from there.

i will get detailed just in case that helps and since you know what youre talking about
hope its not too much

my mom is early 70s and 10 yrs ago started feeling tingling/ache in both arms to fingers
it has increased and been esp worse the past 5 or so yrs
both main symptoms are constant no matter what she does but she has noticed that if she lies down or stands it is not as bad as if she sits a lot

she had laminectomy 3 yrs ago which did nothing to help her
she has spinal stenosis and some degeneration in some discs but the issues are located throughout both arms with the worst of the ache in her arms and on up to her elbow

she saw one neurologist about a yr past her surgery and he said there was nothing he could do
i think that is a terrible response esp since she has only had one surgery - which she now regrets having - and only seeing him once
she did not have full nerve testing done but doesnt want to do that because it would hurt too much

i got her to see an osteopath about 6 months ago and the one thing he has done well is have her go to physical therapy

she noticed the deep massage helped a bit and most recently she asked to have some neck traction
she noticed immediately after this first time that her neck had a bit more mobility and also her arms didnt ache as much as she expected (she does some volunteer work 1x a week and lifts clothes or canned goods)

so she is grateful to have any hope for this traction
my thought is if there was someone who really knew what they were doing they could advise the physical therapy ((my mom had to suggest the neck traction - the pt mistakenly thought she had a neck fusion and so didnt suggest this mode)
she goes to pt 2x a week

she would like to go to someone in raleigh area if possible
the neurosurgeon was dr garner and subsequent neurologist was dr hull

that helps a lot. Depending upon the issue, I would recommend different physicians. I'm very familiar with Dr. Hull; it's a shame your mom had that experience. Chronic pain is sooooo very difficult....it really wears on you, and those you love who see you in pain/discomfort.

I have a doctor in mind but am waiting to hear back from him. Post-surgical cases are especially challenging, but I trust this doctor very much and have always found him to be one of the best diagnosticians I've ever met. He specializes in something else, though, that's why I want to check first. Hopefully I'll hear back from him before the end of the day and will let you know. I'll keep trying to think of others. Most will recommend injections which obviously just covers the problem; I'm not a big fan of that route.

I would think it's very encouraging traction helped. The physician I'm waiting to hear back from works closely with physical therapists and massage therapists.

As soon as I hear, I'll let you know.

i am also no fan of covering up the issue and yes we are encouraged that she had any response to her pt

on the off chance that you know this doctor i will also share with you a conversation my mom recently overheard at her pt
a woman mentioned dr hoffman who apparently practices near wake med in cary and who is a bone specialist?

my mom overheard enough to know that he used rice as one piece of his diagnosing this woman (who had a broken foot that was undiagnosed when she went to the hospital)

i love that and believe this could be true
i dont know if it could help my mom at all of course but just knowing there is someone who is working outside the box - and gets results - really speaks to me

anyway just in case you have heard of him/her i am also going to look that up online
the woman mentioned that dr hoffman could tell just by feeling her foot where the problem was which again was undiagnosed when she went to the hospital

I can tell you from experience to avoid Carolina Back Institute at all cost. They suck.

what are some of your general symptoms

my mom has constant tingling/feeling of heaviness/ variable ache (depending on how much rest she has or how much she exerts) throughout both arms incl fingers

i appreciate any feedback on who you see

They are a top notch practice. I am going to have surgery in the fall and I have no worries whatsoever...
