North Carolina Roll Call
Hey everyone!! Where are you in North Carolina? Are you working on any projects in your area? Do you need any help? I thought we could list ourselves here and we can back each other up if we find common goals in our state.

I'm SaveAmerica, I'm in Cabarrus County (8th district), main goal right now is precinct organization in our county.

1. Mecklenberg
Project I am working on, not necessarily in this order.

1. organizing my precinct. We are technically organized. Now I am looking to up participation in the neighborhood.

2. promoting same-day voter registration legislation

3. Re-registering the homeless voters that that ass Bill James disenfranchised over the summer and get them transportation to the polls.

4. Promoting voter owned elections in the community. That means, basically, trying to get big money out of the political process.

5. Register 300 dem and unaffiliated voters in Mecklenberg in the 8th district. I won't do all 300 with my own two hands, I will get some volunteers to help.

I don't have a map with me but I think you might be part of our 8th district. The candidates who are running for Hayes' seat are making the rounds right now, maybe you can check out their web pages to see who is coming through your neck of the woods in the future; http://www.cabarrusdemocrats.org/links.html

I hear you about watching what you say, it's unbelievable.

I might be involved in Chatham county politics this spring. The action here is in the Democratic primary. Whoever wins the nomination wins the election come November. The county leans Democrat on the national and state levels, but is overwelmingly so on the local level. Because of this, we must fight off DINOS every spring. When Republicans are not fielding their own stealth candidates, they're backing actual Democrats who share their conservative views on growth and taxes.

32. Add me to the Greensboro list.
At least, this is where I live for now. Personally, I want something a bit more rural. I love Gibsonville - it's got that great small town feeling, but close enough to everything else to be convenient for work, etc. If I can't have Gibsonville then I'll settle for a doublewide in a rural area but not too far from Greensboro in any case.

Mark.

35. 5th district - Alexander County - here
I haven't been active in local politics before, but I also am looking to become more involved this time around. I have limited time right now, but I'm starting to look around now for a group locally or regionally. I'll have a little more time this summer; but in 07 I will be able to dedicate large chunks of time, if everything goes according to schedule. If Al Gore runs, I've promised myself I'll work 24/7 for him - he's who I really want; but in the end I'll work for our nominee whoever that is.

Anyone here from Catawba, Iredell, Wilkes, Caldwell, or Burke counties?

I'm currently working on the Ed Ridpath campaign. I might join another one. I figure it's
best to work on individual campaigns to specifically work on those people getting elected. This campaign is for the 37th district. It's some small towns outside of Raleigh. Those could easily turn Republican
if not watched.

50. Wilmington here! please keep fingers crossed for Julia Boseman
She has been Great but a nasty group is running negative and untrue ads against her. As many of you probably know she is the only openly LGBT member of the North Carolina Senate. Some people here just never got over that. A local hate radio station has their sheep in a uproar because she got money from The Victory Fund. http://www.onlinegreensboro.com/~matthillnc/?p=894 I am just so upset with the hateful people who are trying to hurt her, she is such a good Senator.

59. Apparently, Tony Rand has taken her under his wing...
And it's kinda nice to see that she has the support of the more entrenched democratic senate leaders.

Julia has done a great job at each level of politics that "people who would be sure to care"-- (and not for a good reason) about sexual orientation have been able to see her as an excellent public servant, and look past that aspect of her candidacy...Or at least, this has been the pattern so far. I hope that this will remain so in this election cycle.

51. please have poll watchers - to prevent disenfranchisement
I'm in Winston Salem, a pretty calm county.

However, all counties should be on the look out to make sure that
they don't let GOP launch a bunch of frivolous voter challenges.

Or that they block up voting location parking lots.

etc,

It can be a felony to deliberately and knowingly challenge a voter
just because of their race or their name.

71. I'm in Chatham County
Chatham county politics have been keeping me busy. We're fighting DINOs and a district only voting referendum they designed to keep themselves in power. I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll win.

73. Forsyth County/Winston Salem
Good to see that there are so many of us in staunchly "red" NC. I'm unfortunately in the obviously gerrymandered 12th district. The good news is that Democrat Mel Watt is my congressman, the bad news is I can't vote against wing-nut "I hate immigrants and gays, but love Bush" Virginia Foxx. She makes me want to puke! It's so embarrassing, and it will be even worse if (when) she's re-elected. She has millions of $$ as opposed to Sharpe's thousands.

80. Elizabeth Dole makes me want to puke!
She has literally ruined everything she was ever involved in... yes, it IS good to see so many of us in this red state... how the poor North Carolinans continue to vote "against" their interests is beyond me... they have to be brain dead.

Viriginia Foxx's district unfortunately, but believe it or not, I have a decent Councilperson in Republican Robert Clark.

I'm out in the boonies of Alamance County. I get to vote against that freak Vernon Robinson. Good luck to all of us here in the Tarheel State - but go Wolf Pack ;)

In the 9th District. I'm volunteering w/for Kissell & Bill Glass (lost cause, I know). I really hope Democrats can take over at least one district in this county.

I'm in Heath Schuler territory, the 11th district. It's really really red in the extreme SW corner of North Carolina, but I can still put up a Schuler poster in the window. (I'm in a downtown Murphy business.) We definately need some sweet blueness in the 11th district.

Go Heath!
