Does anyone here live in or around Elizabeth City, NC?
My dad is about to take a job there, so this summer i'll (starts to cry) will be leaving my home in NJ for a new one in that area in NC. Does anyone here live there? And do you have any information on the area, particularly Currituck and Camden Counties.
Thanks in advance!

1. Here is some info
First, Elizabeth city is in far north eastern north carolina. You should be close to the beach but otherwise you will have very little to do. There is a university (used to be an all black school) but it is a second tier university. The nearest city of any size is Richmond and that is about 2 hours away. I live fairly far away from there so I am not directly familiar with it but eastern North Carolina is very rural, very conservative.

2. The best thing is
you'll be close to the beach!!! :bounce: If you like that sort of thing there will be plenty to do. The outer banks are close and you're only about an hour from Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills. You will also be about an hour from the Norfolk, Virginia Beach area.

Elizabeth City is in Pasquotank county which voted for Kerry and Gore over Bush in the last elections. Currituck and Camden counties went Bush though.

Elizabeth City was named one of the 100 best small towns in America. (I believe it was number 65.) There is even a shopping mall.

Here are a couple of links to check out.

It is a small town so if you're not used to that it will be a big adjustment. It is an area I would consider if we moved to northeastern NC.

3. Well to cheer ya up.....
The OBX is only about an 1.5 hours from your new spot....

It truly is a great spot and I'm sure you'll find friends to ride down there with ya.

Best beach on the east coast as far as I'm concerned. (and that comes from 2 decades of seeing most of them).

4. Thanks everyone
I'm sure I will like it, but is very sad for me because I have lived my whole life in NJ.

5. You're not that far from the Hampton Roads region, which includes
the cities of Norfolk, Hampton, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Newport News. They comprise a moderately large metro area, so you can escape for a civilization fix.

You are near the Outer Banks. If you are into nature and ocean-beach activities, then you'll really like it where you live. The shoreline, bays and inlets are breathtaking.

Even though this is a red state, there are pockets of blue. When you are older, consider moving to the Triangle area. It is the most progressive region in the state. Durham, Chapel Hill and Carrboro are some of the most progressive places in the country.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, however, when I'm older, (like out of HS) I'm going back north.

7. You might change your mind before that time comes.
Out here in the Triangle you can go all day and never hear a southern acsent. The region, and the state for that matter, has been invaded by transplants from the northeast and midwest.
