I'm Southern Dem from BlueNC. The fundraiser came to my mail box, so I have the originals. Here is an update.
A complaint has been filed with NC Attorney General, Roy Cooper.
A complaint is on hold with the FEC, but has been prepared as we investigate if there is an actual FEC violation. They ask that you cite the violation of law/rules.
A fraud complaint has been prepared for the Postal Inspector's office, but I'm holding out for a personal meeting since their office is in my city. Nothing will ever come of it if I just send a web complaint.
The Charlotte Observer ran a pretty crappy piece without a headline, but did give a nod to Americablog, so I know it's from our actions because I sent the story to John Aravosis.
An interview has been given with the Washington Bureau of another paper, but we don't know if there will be a story, so they've asked that we not discuss it on the blogs.
The original story at BlueNC has been linked to over 25 times at last count and I'm sure the DKos diary, Americablog post and the post here at DU were linked to as well. This means the story is out there and now if people in other states receive something similar they will get hits if they think to research it on the internet. Anyone investigating "Dole fundraising fraud" will find the DKos diary on the front page as well as other stories that clue you in this isn't her first brush with fraud.
The political writer for About.com picked up the story and did a great job with it.
I received so much information from the commenters here, at DKos and Americablog that I simply can't update with each action, but I will do an indepth update once I hear something. The complaint process is long and involved, especially with the AG's office. I was able to put together an awesome complaint "package" with excellent information provided by commenters from every site. I never could have done this on my own.
Thanks for your interest in this. Keep your eyes out for anything else that might refuel this. I'd love to keep the heat on and have something substantive in time for her next run in '08.
