Party for Progressives 4/30 in Winston Salem
I am throwing a party for Progressives in Winston Salem on 4/30 at 2:30 PM. The party will be about two hours and all food will be included but you will be expected to pay for your own drinks. Food will include chips & dip, wings, thin crust pizzas, potato skins, and 2 hours of pool!

The party will be held at The Fox and Hound located at:

367 Lower Mall Thruway Mall
Winston-Salem, NC 27103
(336) 722-6000

I can only accommodate about 20 people total so this is a first come first served sort of basis. The first 18 (myself and my husband are two) people to RSVP will be accepted as guests for the party. I need to let them know an exact count by April 26th so they can put it down in their books and keep a section cordoned off for us.

If you can not attend this, I am thinking of having another one of my bar-b-ques perhaps around the 4th of July. (I had one for some of you last Labor Day weekend)

Please let me know if you would like to come - yknottnc@triad.rr.com.

Thanks!

1. HEY sorry I missed this-but-
I live in Stokesdale- in btween Greensboro and Winston-Salem so if you want to share some ideas.
I am trying to get something going with Code Pinkers but not much response.
I don't know if anyone around here was going to try to make it to WDC for Mother's Day weekend but if not I was going to have a get together the day before and talk about some actions- maybe holding up signs ???
toss soem ideas my way. I am going to try to commit myself to holding a sign for a half hour- 1 hour once or twice a weeks somewhere. and or FREEWAY blogging.????
I used to live on a main drag in NJ, but now I live on a culdesac so not much use putting signs in front of my new house.

2. Gosh, I would love to toss ideas out.
I actually had much more of a response during my last cookout than this bar get together. I believe there is a high concentration of DUers in Durham/Raleigh/Chapel Hill and I believe there are quite a few in the Greensboro/High Point Area. During my last cookout, I had one wonderful DUer come all the way from Burlington!!!!

I think you just have to toss out an idea and see where it goes. If you have flexibility you can do a poll and see which date/time suits people best. I believe for my cookout I even IM'd a few people behind the scenes - ones I knew who were from NC and might be able to go but may not be aware of what was going on.

For my cookout I rented a shelter at a park in Jamestown. A few of us had a nice time just sitting and talking after it was all over. It was a lot of fun.

It can be very frustrating if you try to get something going but do not get much of a response. I contacted people here as well as in a couple of Greensboro Move On groups as well as the Greensboro Peace Coalition. (Google it and you will find it) These groups are very active in politics as well as peace activities and I am sure a lot would be interested in some of your ideas. (also, do not forget Guilford Co. Democrats!)

One of the great things about our party is that we are so diverse. One of the bad things about our party is we are so diverse. By that I mean that we are spread out in all sorts of groups. I am even a part of a group, in Greensboro, whose only purpose it is is to discuss the DSM! With all the splinter groups it can be hard to reach out in any one direction. Do not give up and keep trying to get people together. I do it only for fun because I feel we can do more if we feel we are a true part of the Democratic community. You can take this to the next logical step and get folks out there.

I have done signs on Wendover and Bridford Parkway and it was a very positive experience. You can have a positive experience as well.

3. Keep us posted...I'm not against driving to Winston from RDU.
Just depends on my work schedule, but I am definitely open to it.
