Landfill Moratorium Passes Senate, But Has Tough Fight in House

There are currently six proposed mega-landfills being planned
for North Carolina. Just one of those, the proposed Black Bear
Solid Waste Facility in Camden County, would import three
million tons of waste per year (more than three times the volume
of the state's largest existing landfill), will be 270 feet
tall, and will cover 500 acres of land.
If these mega-landfills are built, North Carolina will become
the fourth largest waste-importing state in the nation. North
Carolina shouldn't be the East Coast's trash can. The state
Senate recently agreed and passed a moratorium on these
mega-landfills so that the state can study and reform our solid
waste laws.
The state House must now pass the moratorium and they need to
hear from constituents like you. But they're under immense
pressure from the lobbyists of the waste industry. Who will be
heard - you or the lobbyists?
