Shuler-51% Taylor-40%!!!
With a month to go before the November elections, there are some bad signs for North Carolina Republicans.

A new poll shows veteran Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Taylor of Brevard is trailing former NFL quarterback Heath Shuler, 51-40.

The poll of 500 likely voters, with a margin of error of 4.5 percent, was conducted Sept. 25-Oct. 2 by Zogby International. Zogby also found that in 15 Republican-held congressional seats in play nationally, Democrats are leading in polls in 11 of those races.

In North Carolina's 8th District, Democratic challenger Larry Kissell is in a dead heat with Republican U.S. Rep. Robin Hayes, according to a survey by OnPoint Polling and Research.

1. Thanks for posting - that is great news.
Price is my Congressman and in a very safe seat so I looked around for other Dems to support in NC. I mailed a check to Shuler and Kissell. I had already sent one to Brad Miller.

Tried to find someone running against that idiot Patrick Henry but never did get any info on an opponent. Do you know anything about that race?

10. McHenry has a lot at stake
in the Mark Foley affair. That's obvious by his over the top reaction and this may provide the answer why: http://www.gayhickory.com/category/democratic-party/

His opponent, Richard Carsner, is a good man and could use any help. The GOP has long considered this seat safe and have been grooming McHenry for a long career in politics.

3. Hey TD.....
I've been curious about that race as well, but according to either election prediction or electoral vote.com, that race isn't even considered competitive. YAY! I hope that's true, because I haven't been able to find any numbers on it.

7. I'll take "Not Competitive"!
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 11:11 AM by TWriterD
And ugh, I cannot believe we're stuck with Burr until at least 2010. Perhaps for life, if Jesse is any indication!

And this is what kills me:

"House District 8: While this District leans Republican, Hayes only won with 56% of the vote against a weak challenger. Furthermore, his vote for CAFTA in this textile region will cost him votes. The Democratic challenger is Larry Kissell, a former textile worker and a teacher. Kissell has proved to be more competitive than expected, and polls have shown him with a lead. Kissell has not filed a fundraising report; it is unclear why he hasn't followed federal election law. This is now a VERY WEAK RETENTION for the Republicans."

The textile industry has been destroyed, yet the dumbasses still vote for the guy who legislates against their best interests. I'm encouraged though, Hayes the R is supposedly only up by 1.

I'm tellin' ya, 11/7 cannot get here fast enough - I want it over!

6. That news of an 11 point lead for Shuler
is music to my ears. Hope that it stays that way. I don't mean to be a hog about those 15 seats in Congress now held by Republicans that are in question- but they need to go to the Democrats in all cases. Thanks for the good news.

8. Wow- woohoo for more ex-jock Southern DEM candidates!!!!
This is the first I'd heard of Heath Shuler 1) being a Democrat and 2) running for office. I'm sorry his NFL career never went anywhere but I hope he's as successful running for Congress as he was as a college QB!
