A more active Easley positions himself, but for what?
Gov. Mike Easley has stepped up his public appearances in recent weeks, prompting some jaw-wagging about his political plans in 2008.

Easley appeared recently at the Democrats' Vance-Aycock dinner in Asheville, at an NAACP event in Goldsboro and at the funeral of state Rep. Bernard Allen. Easley also recently spoke to an education group in Texas.

This has created a buzz that Easley, who is not eligible to seek a third term as governor in 2008, is considering challenging Republican U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole.

Easley insiders say they have seen no evidence that Easley wants to run against Dole.

But as the only two-term Democratic governor in the South, Easley is interested in being involved politically in 2008.

3. He also gave out public welcome to visit his home for Halloween treats
I read that he and wife invited trick or treaters to visit them on Halloween evening. It does appear he is being more outgoing lately.
