Air Pollution....NC right behind Ohio as worst
http://ashevillian.blogspot.com/2007/03/most-pollutants-from-power-plants-ohio.html

The North Carolina Public Interest Research Group released a study this week which places North Carolina second, behind Ohio, for the highest level of power plant pollutants released into the air in 2004.
Come on, Progress. Come on Duke. We can do better. Number 2 is the first loser, right guys?

1. Also, a big problem that is contributing to the pollution in NC is
the fact that Charlotte still hasn't solved its mass transit problem. That many cars sitting in that much traffic on a daily basis without much relief in the form of mass transit to reduce the traffic and pollution from that traffic makes Charlotte a heavy polluter.

And I don't even want to get started on the rest of the total disregard for the air in NC. It's mind boggling.

On second thought,
I see what you mean. Our state government has failed us. It should work much harder to get us into the number 1 spot so we can buy a bunch of those big foam fingers like they use at ball games and walk around chanting, "We're number one."

2. What's that big smoke stack
or whatever when you're coming into Asheville? I saw the nifty solar trash can today.

3. You mean the power plant south of town
off I-26 I guess?

That is actually a pretty clean stack, Carolina Power and Light/Progress took a lot of flak for that one.
What comes out mostly now is steam, at the cost of the lake temperature being really high, like bath water most of the year.
It is still horrible, but it is better.
