I'm back from NC - We LOVE it!!!!
Related thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=170&topic_id=8752&mesg_id=8752

First, I want to thank all of you who shared kindness, experience, and information. I love you people  And apologize for taking so long to post. As you read further you'll understand.

We stayed in Raleigh and drove all over the Raleigh area. Cary, FQ, Holly Springs, etc. It was love at first sight. So beautiful, so many trees, shrubs, and flowering things!! ;) Here in NJ these folks haven't met a tree they don't feel needs to be cut down. It's a pathetic sight around here.

I was focused on houses and hubby was focused on job and job interviews. So I spent a lot of time at the malls on Glenwood Avenue.

I was very impressed with the Raleigh. Trenton and Newark NJ are dirty, the roads a mess etc. Although, in some area of both cities an urban revival is taking place.

More good news. We sold our home here. We listed the day after we got home 4/7/07. Being Easter weekend we didn't expect anyone to show the house but, come Monday and the rest of the week we had 5 prospective buyers. Two offers and one lady like it so much that when she heard there was another offer she made a full price offer. She's been here twice - the second time with Mom and her children. She has signed the contract and we sign today. For those who pray - please pray, or send good vibes whatever. Hope all continues to go as smooth. Moving is stressful and long distance imho is worse.

I'm going to need an apartment to live in temporarily. Nothing fancy just, safe and clean - anywhere in the Raleigh area or neighboring towns. Need pet friendly (1 small Yorkie) 2 bedrooms. I don't intend to unpack everything. All we need is our bed, a table to eat from and a place to shower and sleep. We're going to rough it a little while we look around for a home. I don't want to put my stuff in storage as I have heard some horror stories about entire contents being broken, smashed etc.

If you're still willing please send some names of apartments in the area, and if you've had experience with long distance moves please share the name of the company. I appreciate any advice, I'm a bit 'noivous'. It's a bit over whelming but, I have no second thoughts about living in NC.

The realtor is suppose to help me relocate but, I get the feeling once she gets her commission she's not going to spend a lot of time helping me get to NC.

4. I can help...I am a Realtor in Cary
I am just here for a moment eating lunch, but will send you some info on apartments I think you would ejoy (pet friendly, beautiful surrounding...walk to lake). Do you want a short term lease?

I moved here from Northern Va 11 years ago. It is small townish here, but the weather is gorgeous.
Ha! And the natives complain about the traffic here...that cracks me up!

6. Yes Digit
Short term lease, safe and will accept a small Yorkie, too. The contract is in attorney review. I met with my lawyer today and have to bring in some paper work tomorrow. If I want to I can even leave before the closing and he'll close w/POA. I'll have a better idea of the closing date in a week - maybe 2. It won't be before May 30th. My husband would leave after Memorial Day - he's in sales and that's a big weekend for sales.

PM me your email and website link.

5. My sister lived in
Edwards Mill Apartments for about a year until they got their house built. They are an older but townhouse looking. And I do think some of them have pets. Plus there's the usual pool and cable, if you want it. I saw people w/ pets, anyway. She had a one bedroom that I thought was kinda dark but it suited her purposes.

This place is on Edwards Mil Road just about 2 blocks from Crabtree Valley Mall.

8. Hee Hee, sorry
It's in Raleigh, just off Hwy 70 (Glenwood Ave) at Crabtree Valley Mall (cute mall; no parking to speak of :P )

:D :hi:

I meant say, it's very nice there. It's very well landscaped with lots of room to walk about. And the apartment was clean and in good repair.

10. Glad to hear you love it here and that you sold you house!!!
That's half the battle!!! All the apartments near me are pricey, but they are new. When we moved from our old house to our new house, we rented an appt. with a garage and used it as our storage area, instead of renting a storage unit.

Good luck and please let me know when you finally made the move official!

11. Been thinking about you
Very glad to hear that your visit went well! Somehow I knew it would. ;)

I hope the information and links I provided were useful and helpful.

Sounds like you've got some good apartment advice. There are tons of places to live that offer easy access to Glenwood Avenue. Your husband could remain employed on that road for decades; there must be 20 huge furniture stores up and down that thoroughfare! Great location in the Triangle to live, too; you're not too far from anyplace, really.

Congratulations on the sale of your house! You've got a big new adventure beginning. We look forward to welcoming you to the Triangle!

:hi:

12. Yay!
I'm glad you're coming here. I've lived here all my life and love it very much.

I grew up in Mount Airy and live in Charlotte now and I've only been to Raleigh maybe twice, so I don't know that much that would help you. But umm - on one of the trips to Raleigh I went to the N.C. Museum of Art, and you should really check it out. It was great.

Hey, maybe I could help if you ever wanted information about vacations - I've been all around the state except for the northern half of the coast.

14. Yay for you too! :)
There's a radio show here hosted by a couple that moved down from New York last year. They once had people call in with their opinions about all the "Yankees" moving in - I think the topic came from a class being taught somewhere for people moving here from up north.

Only one caller did the whole "They're rude and should go back where they came from" thing, and every caller after her commented on that and said that she was wrong and making the rest of us look bad and needed to get out and go somewhere other than Wal-Mart. I believe the majority of us are welcoming to new people, which is good because we've been getting a lot of them recently.

I wish someone would move to Charlotte. I take tours and pictures of properties for a rental management company here so I could really help then. Sigh.

Anyway, just wanted to say again that I'm happy for all the people moving here. :) It's an absolutely wonderful beautiful place and I love it with all my heart.

16. Umm..I'm prob moving FROM G'boro TO Charlotte..does that help??
Edited on Sun Apr-22-07 05:41 AM by lildreamer316
Of course; we're in a special situation, too...
Husband is a dj at The Men's Club. Took six years to get the job; so I don't see him leaving that anytime soon.

Actually; you really COULD help me. I'm probably going to have to rent a house instead of buying because the house I own here I don't really own..it's in trust for me and I won't gain full posession until six years from now. In other words; trying to sell it would be a huge pain in the ass; so we will probably rent to friends when we move. Therefore; will need a house or somesuch to rent or maybe rent to own/lease in Charlotte.

Keep in touch. I will know more by the end of the year; beginning of next; when I come into another section of the trust money.

Glad to "meet" you!

18. To all you great folks
I want to thank each of you and post a message to each one of personally but, I'm up to my eyeballs in stuff!! I've been in this house for 16 years and it's amazing the amount of crap my husband and I both accumulated. We have a basement and an attic here and we both have a couple of hobbies each. I'm buried in STUFF!! This is a good time to re-think my priorities. I've been shredding tax forms, reciepts, etc. for a few hours now and have to stop when the shredder over heats. Going nowhere fast on this job.

Have had movers calling and coming over with estimates which is a pain it the butt.

So... to all of you who posted links, info, experience, good vibes and just your plain 'ol two cents  I love you guys! I'll post progress reports.

:grouphug: Love ya'll to pieces!!

20. Here comes my 19th nervous breakdown
I'm a wreck  The buyer loves the house, we're done with all but one inspection. I think this is the one where they crawl up my butt with a microscope. The wreck part now is packing and throwing stuff out. Don't try to make any sense of this post I guess I just need to type, vent, and cry all over my keyboard. Some of it is not related to the move and those stresses. Mother's Day coming up on Sunday and my Mom passed away June 7, 2005. I'm finding cards, things she made, little gifts she gave me, pictures and things that were hers. I'm on a crying jag for days now.

Anyway, we'll be in NC around the end of June. The closing - God willing and the crick don't rise is scheduled for June 24th. We're most likely going to rent a place at Brampton Moors. Haven't seen it just going by what a realtor in NC tells us and their website. It's only for a short term - 6 months so I'm not worried if it turns out I hate the place. I'm just renting and not buying it.

Here in NJ our house was robbed last year and it's a good thing I took my little Yorkie with me when I went out or they might have taken him, too. I'm looking into some type of apartment alarm syestem. Any ideas? I won't be able to leave him alone in the apartment and have any peace of mind. The day after the burglary my husband had ADT Alarm installed. Yeah, I know - he's always a day late and a dollar short. "They" took all my good jewelry - there wasn't anything left to rob.

If I live through this, I'll do it again. I need strength. :grouphug:

21. It really is pretty safe in Cary, but I don't have knowledge about Brampton Moors
The rental office might be able to say which alarm system services the area.

This will be in a good location for shopping and convenient to the "Y", if you should want to join.

It really will be okay, you will love the weather here. Moving is stressful, but there is an end to your ordeal, and it is coming.

It's been so insane here but, you know that. I'll pm you when we get into the apartment and would love for you come over and have a cup of tea or coffee or we can go crazy and have a Corona on the patio!! ;-)

I can't truly express my appreciation for your kindness and good wishes over the internet but, I know we're going to be good friends in real life. As soon as I get my apartment number and a firm date for my arrival in NC I'll let you know. I'd love for you to come over. Me Casa e su casa.
