Supreme Court upholds right to sue over Mitchell jail fire
From WECT TV-6 (NBC)

The families of 8 men killed in a 2002 fire at the Mitchell County Jail can continue with their lawsuit.

The families sued, saying state workers failed to properly inspect the jail.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services had asked that it be dismissed, but the state Supreme Court ruled 5 to 2 today that the lawsuit should go forward.
