3. Moore ran some really misleading negative ads some weeks back
I started out about even between the two. Mostly positive on each, with about equal complaints. His early negative ads, particularly in certain regions/outlets surprised me by how aggressive and misleading they were. They worked for him and narrowed the margin, but probably pushed me towards her.

Too much pandering by each.

While I fault him for those ads, it has still been a relatively civil campaign by NC standards.

4. They bothered me, too.
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 01:15 PM by NCevilDUer
Had a couple push-poll calls for Perdue, which kind of bugged me, but then Moore's ads also bothered me, so I'm back to floundering between them.

EDIT :

And it didn't help that they BOTH endorse Obama - an endorsement that would tip it in their favor if they weren't both there.

5. Almost all Dem candidates pandered to AA and endorsed Obama
The significant AA vote in the NC primary is required to win most contests. Rather than remain neutral wrt the national race, this time nearly every Dem candidate in NC has endorsed Obama, at first trying to gain an advantage and later (after an opponent endorsed Obama) not to be at a disadvantage. They all saw this as a "safe" decision because of Obama's lead nationally and in NC.

After today, it may seem less safe; not because of Clinton in PA, but because of the NC GOP ad using Rev. Wright and challenging Perdue and Moore for endorsing Obama. This is a new wrinkle on the existing concerns about the coattails effect Obama might have down ticket. The RW in NC are very clever and I expect the next two weeks to get rather nasty, especially in the email/whisper efforts.

6. Yes Weekly
http://www.yesweekly.com/

They do not have it online yet but their latest issue has a breakdown of all of the NC candidates in the TRIAD and State races. It is the closest thing to an alternative newspaper in the area and it is the 2008 Election Issue. If you can't pick one up check the web site in the next few days. I found it very helpful for some candidates I new little about.

9. and the Indie's own "endorsement"i shows Moore is beholden to Wall Street -wants to end corp taxes
Last thing we need in North Carolina is a corporatist who is beholden to Wall Street and would dump corporations' tax responsibilities onto the poor person:

It's true, Moore sullied that good work by wringing hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the Wall Street firms he hired to help invest the state's money. He thus opened himself up to suspicions that he was choosing advisors based on their political support, a perception that, even if false, can't be disproved.

And yes, early in his campaign Moore did exclaim how "wonderful" it would be to repeal the state's corporate income tax. No, it wouldn't: It would be a $1.3 billion boondoggle. Moore's stopped saying it, fortunately. But it's indicative of his pro-business bent.

The choice is so clear! <insert sarcasm thingie> And there's something about Perdue that I don't trust.

"Behind that fixed smile, Perdue is known for the kind of grim determination it takes to be elected the first woman governor. What she's not known for is inspired leadership."

I may sit this one out.

15. Do we know for sure that Purdue wouldn't be with Moore on this issue?
I haven't been happy with (never seen at Dem Functions) Easley as Governor. Don't feel he's helped "build the party" but just been a "caretaker." Purdue has turned me off when I've seen her as very glib and pretty much just your basic politician.

I do know that Moore has been a favorite on CNBC...so that that for what it is... Being a "favorite" there...says a bit on how he caught the "eye" GE/Jack Welch.

I'd probably go for Moore, just because of my reaction to Purdue.

13. Perdue
Moore has done a good job as Treasurer, the state pension fund is one of the best in the country but I am not happy with how he uses mailers in the past that seem like campaign mailers with his picture. Also I don't see how he can cut property taxes for seniors. That just seems ridiculous and pandering, on whatlegal grounds would he try to do that? How would we make up the shortfall? If college is free then what would be the point? Shouldn't we have to work to get into college? I go to night school and it does not cost much, sure it is a hardship but it's about childcare and time rather than the cost of classes. I do agree though that the bigger universities need to cut the cost and I do like the idea of volunteering to get a cut in the cost, at least it isn't a hand out.

17. Moore continues the misleading attacks
As I said earlier, I started out feeling pretty good about either of them, but disliked seeing Moore run some ads that were totally misleading concerning Perdue. I started seeing a new batch of that type ads a few days ago, at least one trying to drive AAs away from Perdue. She countered that one with an ad featuring one of the leaders of the Black caucus.

As I said before, I am now gradually becoming more-likely to vote for Perdue. They are each smart and well-educated, but neither is a populist. If elected, I hope Perdue would use her professional training and her political experience to attack the health care and mental health issues.

18. Perdue
She is for a moritorium on the Death Penalty until it can be studied and applied humanly and fairly plus she was the driving force behind the Clean Water Management Trust Fund which awards millions in grants each year to help water quality in NC.
