Poll question: Are you or any member of your family an employee of WalMart
Just got finished taking a Zogby poll, which I've neglected to do for awhile, but I was interested in some questions I have never seen before, including this one and some others about participants' potential interest in French culture (?!?--am I missing something in the news?).

Any insights as to why these questions are now included? I think I have a clue about the Walmart one(s), but I'm feeling a little stupid today, so I'm interested to know what others might know to make me smarter.

Also, one funny error is in the poll, included in the question about choices for potential Republican nominees for President. What would make me most likely to vote for my choice? To beat the Republican nominee!

By the way, anyone want to confess to how often they SHOP at WalMart? I have to admit, I go there probably several times a year, I think for the convenience, or for days when I feel poor (and need to get that view in perspective).

1. Just a semi-"disclaimer" here
This question reminds me of the famous, "Are you, or have you ever been, a member of The Communist Party?" My reaction was somewhat visceral because I am not necessarily anti-Walmart. In two small towns where I used to live, when you did the demographics, and looked at the existing business make-up, WalMart was a needed business to serve multiple communities in rural areas.

I alienated some of my union buddies in one Ohio County by saying that, but it was true. Plus, I own a small business and know how difficult it is to pay a "living wage," with most basic operating costs beyond a business owner's control.

We need to overhaul our economic (development) policies, and health care, before we are to move forward on any meaningful "homeland security" level, I think.

This is somewhat in jest, but maybe the question, instead of the WalMart one, should be: Are you, or is any member of your family, a U.S. or state-elected official. I think ALL four "Powers of the Estate," however, are avoiding the really tough questions.

2. I also found the question about moving out of the country curious...
...and what was up with all those questions about France? Is that becoming the preferred destination for expats? Another F. Scott Fitzgerald/Ernest Hemingway era?

It was a pretty typical Zogby poll. It always starts out asking how you voted in 2004, what party you back, who you like in elections, etc. After that, things can get pretty off the wall, sometimes to the point where you think your chain is being pulled. (I once quit in mid-poll because the questions were just getting a little too bizarre.) The Wal-mart stuff is always there, for some reason.

BTW...I go to Wal-mart about two or three times a year, usually when I need a cheap pair of sunglasses.

3. thanks,
i just needed a sanity check, and I forgot about the going out the country stuff, thanks for bringing that up, I even have a twelve year old son that asks me about that option from time to time.... But this is the first time I have seen the off-the-wall questions before, and with your feedback, I'm wondering if it is time to go back to school again because there are so many wackos wise to the polling techniques these days.

4. Yes
sorry...:( My wife works for their home offices in Arkansas. But, I didn't know if you wanted an "ohio only" poll...so, sorry if I messed up your numbers, I'm just passing through, reading...a lot, in these forums.

And, as for how many times a year I shop at walmart? A lot...best place all round, except on some canned goods, I go to price cutter, or alps for some food items...its not, like i just shop at walmart, i keep my eyes out constantly, for better deals, especially on meat...I cant' believe how expensive, hamburger meat is nowadays! Whats a poor man to do, when hamburger meat is damn near 2 bucks a pound!...:)
