We all remember Election Night 2004 —staying up late, waiting for the State of Ohio’s election results to finally come through, only to be crushed with disappointment.
We all remember Ohio’s Secretary of State, J. Kenneth Blackwell, becoming the new Katherine Harris.
And we all remember Ken Blackwell using his title as Secretary of State to campaign for the passage of Ohio’s constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, and to be George W. Bush’s campaign chair in Ohio.
Stonewall member Jennifer Brunner remembers all of this as well.
Jennifer Brunner was a judge in 2004. She saw with dismay what was happening. She decided to give up her judgeship to run for Ohio Secretary of State. With this kind of commitment and her years of election law experience, she will bring back integrity to Ohio elections. She will make sure that the 2008 presidential election in Ohio is one that is fair and can be trusted.
Jennifer is the Democratic nominee for this open seat in Ohio (Ken Blackwell is term-limited) and a long-time ally of Stonewall. She is a dynamic candidate described by The Columbus Dispatch as having the advantage in November and with “fire in the belly.” Taking back the Secretary of State’s office in Ohio is critical to our interests, especially in 2008, and our chances have never been better.
In the fight to take our country back, we must be strategic. We must ensure that key positions affecting our rights are held by equality-minded individuals like Jennifer Brunner. Will you please help Jennifer Brunner win by making a generous donation of $25, $50, $100 or even more today?
http://www.jenniferbrunner.com/contribute.shtml?nsdIn April, Jennifer received the endorsement of the National Stonewall Democrats because we believe that Jennifer’s race is key to our families. She is the first non-federal candidate to be endorsed in the history of the National Stonewall Democrats. Upon her endorsement, NSD Co-Chair Stephen Driscoll said, “Jennifer Brunner is a class act and will be a terrific Secretary of State for all of Ohio’s families, but particularly ours in the LGBT community.” We need you to give your endorsement as well.
Jennifer said of the endorsement, “I am grateful and proud to have received the endorsement of National Stonewall Democrats. It seems particularly fitting considering that my first campaign stop ever as a candidate—when I ran for judge in 2000—was a meeting of the Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio.”
Jennifer has been a member of the Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio for several years now and has been endorsed by both her local chapter in Central Ohio and the Cleveland Stonewall Democrats. The Democratic National Committee is calling this race “one of the top 2 races in the United States” in 2006.
Take a moment to think of what Election Night 2008 could be like. Jennifer has to win in Ohio in 2006, if Democrats are to win in 2008.
http://www.jenniferbrunner.com/contribute.shtml?nsdWhile it isn’t clear yet who the Democratic presidential candidate will be, clearly, national political activity already shows Ohio will again be the battleground state. Wouldn’t you feel a little better knowing Jennifer Brunner, a former judge and elections attorney, was handling Ohio’s elections in a fair and honest manner? Take a moment and make a donation for the future of our community and our country.
