Shamansky Asks Tiberi to Sign Ethics Pledge
7/28/06

“***
Bob Shamansky, of Bexley, proposes banning members of Congress from accepting gifts, meals and travel from lobbyists and requiring any lawmaker found guilty of a felony to lose his government pension.

In addition, he called for independent investigations of ethics complaints and ending earmarks in the federal budget, which have allowed lawmakers to set aside millions for pet projects in their districts.

At a news conference outside the Columbus campaign office of his Republican opponent, Rep. Pat Tiberi, Shamansky blasted him and other members of Congress for adopting a "watered-down" reform bill earlier this year.

Tiberi spokesman Bruce Cuthbertson declined to comment on Shamansky’s proposal or criticism. "We can talk about ethics, but the way this was presented was a stunt," he said.

Yeh, Tiberi might talk about ethics, but he won't do anything about it, at least while the insurance and pharmaceutical industry money keeps rolling in.

Eric has the inside skinny on Bob’s news conference and ethics pledge.
