1. My son asked me the same question...
...driving thru Stark and Portage Counties last weekend. I told him it was probably just a decorative fad, but maybe there is, indeed, something more to it....

We were also in The Wayne National Forest near Chillocothe over the past several days....

2. Thanks
I hope somebody can answer me though I just thought it was a little strange. By the way I just loved Chillocothe its really nice. I trying to find a area that my teenagers will like. My husband will be working in Circleville and I won't live there.

3. Chillocothe
is really nice, and my husband grew up there, on a farm alongside the river. He has memories (and I have pictures) of his childhood, that are priceless and wonder-filled.

When we were down in that area over the past several days, my oldest(only 12) asked us why the capitol of Ohio was ever Chillocothe (he was looking at maps; he didn't remember our excursion that included Chillocothe, to see the outdoor Tecumseh Drama several years ago.

Oh, the stories we told him (my husband has Indian roots besides)....

Circleville, I understand, is the home of the Great Pumpkin Festival.

PAssed through there a while back...

Don't smell no more....

11. Chillicothe was once the state capital

And it is the hills surrounding Chillicothe which are pictured on the state seal. http://www.netstate.com/states/symb/seals/oh_seal.htm

5. Big blue stars?
Some people have resurrected the WW2 era convention of placing a prominent star to signify they have a child away in the war. Ohio has a significant number of people serving in the military.

6. Well, that's very interesting
in that Ted Strickland recently helped my mom (she's a Republican) get her brother's purple heart and 4 other medals for service in WW2 (after years of writing the Defense Department), for being killed in battle, among other things.

After your response, and a call to my mom, I now know that a blue star means you have a child away at battle, and a gold star means you have had a child that has been killed in battle. That makes me want to throw up.

Ohio has a disproportionate of gold-star children, I'm sure. Yet, I've yet to see a gold star....

I hate everything that has to do with going to war....

10. Moving to Ohio
Forget those stars. The first thing you must do is buy a baseball cap with a big O on it, or your name will be S---.
Good luck, I came from Pittsburgh and I fit in real good.
