Ohio's Food Pantries in Need -- Can You Help?
Edited on Fri Aug-04-06 07:48 AM by theHandpuppet
Summer is an especially difficult time for food pantries across the country and many are in desperate need of donations. Won't you consider donating to one of the organizations on this list? (More links are also needed, especially for Southern Ohio)

Thank you, everyone!

1. One more place
Sorry, I don't have a link, but for Dayton DUers the St. Vincent Thrift Store on Edwin C. Moses Boulevard operates a pantry every second and third Wednesday for those people who live in West Dayton and most of Dayton View. They get a lot of their food from the Emergency Food Bank, but always appreciate donations.

Summers are hard. One Wednesday when I worked there we got so low on food that by the end of the morning we were literally handing out condiments.

People come through great during the holidays, but the need continues throughout the year.

Thanks, HandPuppet, for posting this. Also saw it in GD.

3. KInda/sorta
The food pantry is located at the store, but the store per se does not run it. But I'm sure they can answer questions, or direct callers to someone who can.

Basic info. Food is packed on Saturday mornings prior to the Wednesday pantry hours. The packing starts around 9 and ends at noon. It's amazing how many sacks of groceries can get packed during that time. There are a lot of good folks there and it's a lot of fun, too.

It's also great for pre-teens and teen-agers. There's something for everyone to do.

Again, this is an incredibly good idea. I hope it's being replicated on every state forum.

Good job!

I am having a difficult time finding info on food banks in the Southern Ohio region, specifically Scioto, Lawrence, Pike, Brown, Jackson, Adams, Gallia, Highland and Ross counties. Any help would be much appreciated!
