Ohio Voter registration experience
I have finally started getting around to registering to vote in Ohio (having recently moved back from Texas). What have I learned: A.) My county board of elections does not, at this late hour, have the proper registration forms. So much for last minute registration drives. B.) Blackwell's office phone lines have been cut during construction work making his office unavailable. C.) My county, Williams, will be using the Hart Intercivic electronic voting machines. Here is a link that provides a partial list of documented Hart e-voting machine failures: http://www.votersunite.org/info/Hartinthenews.pdf#search=%22hart%20intercivic%20voting%20machine%20record%22

This is their website: http://www.hartintercivic.com/

I'm going to my board of elections and will figure out which model we're using. I will be surprised if it is a model that provides a paper trail.

1. The level of incompetence is unacceptable
In the last election, I had to show my local Board of Elections people how to run reports.

2. Incompetence will favor the staus quo I suspect.
Incidentaly, I was told that the machines Willimns county will be using do have a paper trail. We're using the Hart opti-scan and e-slate as are numerous other Ohio counties I guess. I'm still researching them.

3. Print the forms
While it would be nice if the county Board of Elections had registration forms available, they never do. I've had to print forms for every drive that I've done.

My latest gripe? That the Ohio Sec. of State site is wrong. I moved a few months ago and changed my address with the board of election. When I type in my unusual last name, I'm not listed. I tried both my old and new addresses-- nothing. When I called the county BoE, I'm registered. I wonder how many people will check on-line to see where to vote on election day, then figure that they aren't allowed. :(
