The Clinic says the dog was anesthetized during the demonstration and euthanized afterward.
The hospital says the use of the dog was unauthorized and the Clinic does not allow procedures with animals for the sole purpose
of sales training...
The hospital says it has reported itself to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which regulates animal testing.

I'm appalled! The doctor needs to be disciplined accordingly--perhaps some "demonstration" on him might be a fair punishment! Let's hope the poor dog is finally at peace...

The fact that they did this at the Clinic doesn't surprise me. Was this one of the devices that they have a vested interest in? How much was this "animal vendor" paid? Also..wasn't the clinic in trouble years ago about doing testing on animals or something along those lines? The Clinic has turned into nothing but a multi-million dollar money machine!

This is outrageous. It wasn't stated in the broadcast what the machinery was designed to do but obviously it wasn't to save a life after the aneurysm was induced...

CLEVELAND -- ...The surgeon, who was not immediately identified, was presenting the device to a group of salespeople Wednesday. The hospital confirmed the incident to The Associated Press in a written statement.
"As an academic medical center, Cleveland Clinic does not allow procedures with animals for the sole purpose of sales training. The situation that occurred yesterday was unauthorized and not in compliance with our policy," the statement said.
The clinic said the surgeon did not have permission from the hospital's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee to sacrifice the dog...
The newspaper reported that the doctor submitted an application to the committee, but its members never reviewed it...
