Driving from Boston to Indy, need advice! Will be following
Route 70 through Ohio and would like to do some antiquing along the way. We know about the "Heart of Ohio" antique mall in Springfield, are there any areas with a number of antique shops just off Route 70 that would be good to visit? We are not sure yet of how we will get across NY or Penn to complete the route, Have 3-4 days free to stop along the way. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1. Besides Springfield (good stop)
look up Waynesville (may be out of your way, or maybe not):

When are you planning on driving through?

2. mtnester, thanks for the reply, we will be leaving here, just north
of Boston on June 5th. Have to be in Indianapolis on the 8th(family birthday). We are looking for a new route from here to the Ohio border (rt70), I clicked on the link you provided and looked it up on my atlas. Waynesville is now on our list! This is just the type of town we would like to see and poke around. Lots of places to stay over before finishing our trip. Have you done the shops in this town or perhaps stayed at one of the B & B's? Thanks for your help, any other suggestions are appreciated.

6. Shopped there, have not stayed overnight
My favs are the Yankee Peddler Festival in the fall, and the Backwoods Festival in September...if you have never experienced a primitive craft fair, you would be in for a real treat! You have to go hungry, and with enormous patience (crowds)...however, everyone slows down a little, everyone relaxes a little more, everyone (most everyone) is more polite, more willing to talk to strangers...sigh.

7. Waynesville is about an hour and half south of the I70/I71 interchange...
off of I71. You would take exit 45 off of I71 and go west (about 10 minutes). When you get to US42 you would be in Waynesville.

4. Actually there are three Antique Malls in that area.
The "Heart of Ohio" is one of 3 facilities, one of the other two is about the same size and the other is smaller. They are not actually in Springfield, but are right next to the highway.

I think the other large one is AAA, and the smaller one is the SPRINGFIELD ANTIQUE CENTER.

The addresses are all here.

When you get to Columbus, you might want to stop at the Greater Columbus Antique Mall. It is a couple of miles south of the interstate, just east of where it intersects with I-71.

after not having been in there for a few years. Not a real good time, nothing really interesting, it has become more like a junk shop than an antique shop anymore. Sad. And I spent hours in there really looking at everything. I would have had a better time driving about 2 more miles north and hopping stores in the Short North or even farther up High Street in Worthington and Clintonville.

The only fun part of the store was stopping in at Einstein's Bagels about a two blocks away loading up on bagels, and grabbin a bagel dog.

:)
