20. how dumb is this
Just becoz Kurt Shuring ran a stupid-ass campaign, doesn't mean u can sit on your laurels.

Boccieri is also a dumb-ass like Shuring but also a hot-head who thinks just coz he went to Iraq he deserves votes ( I have emails to prove it)

2003 responses on the DU Ohio Forum, and no response. U guys don't have a clue, just like Shuring apparently did not, health care shit or not.

The story is two years old. Just how dumb is it to react to it now?

23. I know John personally. He's a decent man.
I support his run for Congress, but I wouldn't be associating with the likes of Mark Dann!!!

3. True enough
In order to unseat an entrenched incumbent, we need to build all of the support that we can. It seems like the entire political calendar has changed.

6. if Regula runs again Boccieri is not likely to unseat him...
but Boccieri is hoping regula won't run again...am I right ?

By having Ted endorse him this early, Boccieri is hoping not to have Tom Shaw, who ran for the 16th in 2006, or anyone else jump into the ring for a primary fight.

So the calendar really hasn't changed, instead it is your candidate trying to lock the primary in early.

Good luck !

19. Boccieri is the incumbent--change your talking points, and
he is certainly anything but entrenched.

He's like a doe in the headlights that knows nothing. No wonder so many "heavy hitters" have to show up for him.

7. democratic candidates in 2008 better watch out
(general comment, not a reference to Boccieri in particular)

in 2006 we were able to blame the republicans for our misery.

However, now that we have a majority in the house, I want to see democratic candidates offer real substance in 2008.

If you don't offer a well defined platform, you ain't getting my vote, no matter who endorses you.

8. he is in his FIRST elected term for crying out loud...
quoting from Boccieri's site http://johnforcongress.com/biography.html

"John Boccieri, is in his first term as a member of the Ohio Senate for District 33"

As best as I can tell, this is the first public office Boccieri has been elected to.

He hasn't served six months as a state senator yet and he just announced his candidacy for US Congress.

Let me guess, if elected to congress in 2008, he will be announcing his candidacy for US senator from Ohio, to replace Voinovich, in 2010 and perhaps his candidacy for President in 2012.

I am sorry to be saying this, but this candidate appears to be too full of himself, take a look at his signature on the front page of his site : "John"

wow ! imagine that, someone with a first name John signing "John".

And he has listed all his 2006 endorsements in his 2008 run.

Click on the issues section and you get "Coming soon..."

10. Ralph Regula has been such a solid incumbent that it has been hard recruiting candidates to oppose..
...him. Cannot wait forever for Mr. Perfect to come along.

I can understand a poster with your user name criticizing a candidate who got the NRA endorsement.

11. I like to see our candidates getting the NRA endorsement
I encourage other progressive / democratic candidates to also try and get the NRA endorsement. Even if you don't secure the endorsement, you score a few points with gun owners and gun control is off the table as a wedge issue.

TBA, I have high regard for your views, however in this case my postings didn't have anything to do with the NRA endorsement. I hadn't looked closely at the endorsements.

Sorry :)

12. Ooops, sorry, read too much into it.
Mr. Bocceri did not have any "issues" posted on his website yet, so I looked at his endorsements to get the measure of the man. Personally, the Chamber of Commerce endorsement troubles me more than the NRA. Bet the CoC won't endorse Bocceri in a race versus Ralph Regula. Thanks for the complement.

13. I feel any endorsements are a good thing...
for a candidate, it shows that the endorser feels they have something in common with the candidate.

And if you can pick up endorsements from groups with opposing views it speaks even more highly of you, it demonstrates that you can work amicable across the aisle.

Mr. Boccieri may be a fine legislator and public servant that will achieve a great many things.

However at this time he does not have such a record and, IMHO, he is doing a dis-service to his constituents and squandering his opportunity to build such a record in the Ohio senate, by running for US congress as a freshman state senator without any previous record as an elected public servant.

14. A little more about John Boccieri (pronounced Bo Cherry)
http://johnboccieri.tripod.com/johnsbiography.html

John is finishing his second term as State Representative District 61. Currently, Representative Boccieri's unit, the 773rd Airlift Squadron is on active duty supporting Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. John is married and has two children.

It is Boccieri's first term in the senate, but not hs first elected term. He served two elected terms in the Ohio House. I know John. He would make an outstanding Congressman. He and Tim Ryan are very much alike in style and beliefs. Consider this an endorsement for John Boccieri.

(Team Boccieri: It would be a good idea to update the bio to include Boccieri's service in the legislature.)

15. thanks for the update on his service in elected office...
I did not see that on his campaign website, my apologies for saying that he was in his first elected office.

Thanks for the tripod link, but I wish you had indicated that you were quoting from the tripod website, it was confusing to me how he could be on active duty and in North Canton announcing his candidacy at the same time.

If elected perhaps he will make an outstanding congressman, I wish he had run for another Ohio house term and made a run for US congress from a position that he served for multiple terms.

Because I still don't understand why a first term state senator in his freshman year is a candidate for another office.

I think I have said my piece.
