URGENT RAPID RESPONSE: Tell Voinovich to Support Feingold-Reid and Levin-Reed Amendments!

The time for action is now!

As I write this, the Senate is about to bring to vote the Feingold-Reid and Levin-Reed Amendments to the 2008 Defense Spending Bill ( H.R. 1585) that would work to bring a responsible end to the war in Iraq and bring our troops home safe and soon! (Summaries Below)

In a recent interview with WOSU, George Voinovich talked about his desire for "comprehensive plan" that would "allow us to reduce our forces there" (Full Article). On Monday in Findlay, Senator Voinovich even admitted that there are not funds to prevent more devastating future floods because of the War in Iraq (Full Article).

It is an outrage to the citizens of Ohio that Senator Voinovich knows the right thing to do for our Troops and Ohio, but is unwilling to Take a Stand with his constituents! In is unacceptable for Senator Voinovich to spew empty rhetoric about wanting a change in Iraq and yet NEVER taking action! Although Voinovich offered an amendment to put the Post-Escalation drawdown into law, this is not a change of course! This is just another rubber stamp George Bush's failed and flawed policy. Yesterday, Voinovich committed yet another outrage by voting against the Webb Amendment requiring equal time at home for our soldiers who have served in Iraq.

We cannot allow Senator George Voinovich to sit on the sidelines offering empty words while our Brave Soldiers and Iraqi civilians are getting killed every day!

Call Voinovich's Office and tell him to Support the Troops and End the War by voting for Fiengold-Reid and Levin-Reed!

Feingold-Reid Summary:
Sens. Feingold (D-WI), Reid, Leahy, Boxer, Whitehouse, Harkin, Sanders, Schumer, Durbin, and Menendez filed amendment No. 2924 to mandate the beginning of the withdrawal of most American forces from Iraq 90 days after enactment of the bill, with funds cut off for any American forces remaining in Iraq after June 30, 2008 except for counterterrorism, training and protection of U.S. infrastructure and personnel. The last version of the Feingold amendment received 29 votes on May 17.

Levin-Reed Summary:
Sens. Levin (D-MI) & Reed (D-RI) filed amendment No. 2898 to mandate the beginning of withdrawal of American forces from Iraq within 90 days of enactment of this bill and to complete the withdrawal within nine months of enactment except for limited purposes of training of Iraqis, counterterrorism and protecting American personnel and infrastructure.
