JOHN BOEHNER R-OH 8SHADOWS ON HIGH: KUCINICH CRAZY? HARDLY!By Brian Rothenberg - Sep 28th, 2007 @ PROGRESSOHIO.org

So as the phone chorus rose, and the internet filled with condemnation, Wednesday was more a day of annoyance – inconvenience, that Dennis had once again caused the phones to ring, and created the anxious tension of folks in both Washington D.C. and the vast political landscape of Ohio.

As we talked, Auster was reading from his release and pointed out to me that in fact Dennis had said he switched his vote because a provision guaranteeing SCHIP eligibility for legal immigrant children which had been stripped.
~snip~
The fact of the matter is that the House’s vote Tuesday night, to add $35 billion to the SCHIP program, was already set to pass overwhelmingly. The real vote on this issue will come after President Bush’s promised veto of the renewal of this Children’s Health Insurance Program which will require both the Senate and the House to over-ride the President’s veto.
Last July baited by House Minority Leader John Boehner, the U.S. Senate stripped the language giving better access to legal immigrant kids who are U.S. citzens. It was stripped in order to satisfy conservatives and get a veto-proof majority in the U.S. Senate.

So Dennis Kucinich, standing on the House floor Tuesday night, knew he had an opportunity to send a message without significantly impacting the bottom line vote, he knew he had a bully pulpit through his David v. Goliath Presidential campaign, and used the opportunity to make us think about an issue greater than that vote – why would we inject illegal border dispute issues into a matter that deals with legal, immigrant kids that our taxpayer’s pay the bill for anyway.
~snip~
Our Republican Senators, in forcing a compromise for a veto-proof majority, stripped this provision by injecting the innuendo of a border immigration dispute making it seem as if we do not already pay some price for caring for legal immigrant citizens.
~snip~
Is Dennis the obstructionist ? No.
If there is an obstructionist in Ohio, it is House Minority Leader, John Boehner, who will lead the charge to prevent an over-ride of the President’s veto – to prevent continued coverage and expansion of uninsured Ohio children that our Democratic Governor and Republican Ohio legislative leaders John Husted and Bill Harris embraced three short months ago.
Looks like Dennis did his homework. AGAIN.
