Cuyahoga County plagued with voting machine problems again

5 Percent Of Registered Voters Cast Ballots

<snip>
Officials at the BOE had to stop counting ballots at about 11 p.m. All the voting machines went down while downloading memory cards.

The server first crashed at about 9 p.m. for 10 minutes and then it started again.

After going down for the second time, a Diebold technician was called in to to take a look at the problem.

Machines were then taken down every 45 minutes for the BOE to be able to save the information from all the cards.

1. The thought of a "Diebold technician" wandering around the voting machines makes me SICK. On anothe
matter, there was a ballot SNAFU in Chagrin Falls, and when election workers called the BOE to alert them, the response was snippy, and uninformed.

It seemed as though there was a lack of basic knowledge about Ohio and Cuyahoga voting law.

My guess is, additional problems at the Cuy BOE will be uncovered.

2. Reasons for Cuyahoga County vote count delay still a mystery
CLEVELAND -- Cuyahoga County's Board of Elections produced final election numbers Wednesday morning just before 11:30 a.m.

The delay is being blamed on two inexplicable computer server crashes and a precautionary stop/start back-up plan used to protect the partial count.

Add in some problems with lost or blank memory cards that took more time to solve.

It all kept campaigns and candidates in suspense way too long.

The Election Director takes a glass half full approach.

"We had a good day in terms of the election process," Jane Platten said. Polls opened on time and most voters were processed smoothly.
