at the risk of being accused of being a spammer, i am posting this here after it sunk like a stone in gd-p. posted in obama group, also. but i just thought the good folks of ohio should know that the folks that brought you the victory in iowa are on their way to ohio. (ok, we were not alone, obviously. but these people are some amazing campaigners. what would you say if you opened your door and an alderman from chicago was there to ask for your vote?)
my chicago alderman campaigns in millwaukee
just wanted to put up a quick report from my alderman. last night was our monthly ward dem meeting. my alderman, joe moore, has been campaigning for barack quite a bit. most weekends when there was a state that you can drive to from illinois, he has been out there. he is a great canvasser, and has been out there just knocking on doors. so, last weekend he was in milwaukee. since they have same day registration in wisconsin, even though you go out with a walk sheet of previous voters, every door has a potential voter behind it, so you knock on them all. he is a white guy, but an awesome progressive, and asked to be assigned to a predominately african american area. he said that without exception, every person he talked to was aware of the election, was excited about obama, and promised to get out and vote. he said he hasn't seen anything like it since the movement to elect harold washington, chicago's first black mayor. (i am working on a longer piece about harold. there are many lessons to be learned from that rainbow movement. how he was elected, but more importantly, how he governed.)
i hope that election officials in wisconsin have been paying attention, because they are about to be swamped.
so, they are planning to take a bus to cincinnati, for the 4 days ending mar 4. trying to work it out so i can go.
