1 reason for vote for Barack Obama
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 01:37 PM by poli speak
"Since the birth of our nation, change has been won by young Presidents and young leaders who have shown that experience is defined not by time in Washington or years in office, but by wisdom, instinct and vision. Today we still draw on the "truths" that we believe to be "self-evident"—but how easy it is to forget that Thomas Jefferson was just 33 when he wrote them into our Declaration of Independence. How easy it is to forget that Martin Luther King was just 26 when he led the Montgomery Bus Boycott, just 34 when he inspired America with a powerful dream. My friends, when we choose a President, we are electing judgment and character, not years on this earth -- and it is the moral compass I see in Barack Obama that gives me confidence he will steer our country in the right direction. He was, after all, right about the war in Iraq from the very beginning!"

(excerpt from John Kerry's January 10, 2008, endorsement speech)

Maybe if you read, or, better yet, listen to the whole speech, it would make more sense to you.

3. I Don't Buy It
Voting for someone on the sole basis that they're young and/or inexperienced doesn't make any more sense than voting for someone on the sole basis that they're old or experienced.

7. I Sure Did
And the link doesn't make your "(Obama's young and inexperienced and that's reason enough to vote for him)" premise any more valid.

11. Not a personal attack
as you would like to imply.

You have your hands over your ears and eyes and are screaming la la la

Do you have an appreciation for History?

I think it is a completely fair question.

I think inspiration, hope, and the idealism of youth have shown shown to be marks of truly great leaders throughout history.

The years of experience for the Clintons have made them bitter and combative.

I wish you could have seen them back when they first started. God they were gold and they were glorious. (poorly paraphrased quote from Primary Colors that came to mind)

9. Seriously....
When this process started I was a firm Edwards supporter (well Gore actually but that never materialized into anything more than a pipe dream). Once Edwards dropped out I found myself leaning towards Clinton (more because of Bill and less because of Hillary). But after listening to her and looking into her stance on issues (war in Iraq, Trade policies) I felt that I could not support her. She failed to motivate me to do anything other than change the channel. Where as with Obama I see everything that this nation needs; Youth, Leadership and hope! All I see in Clinton is the same old politics as usual and I honestly don't think she can beat McCain, let alone any Republican opponent, because she is viewed so negatively by so many people. She would already be starting the general election in the whole with voters. And thats not a chance we can afford to take!
