Director vs. Superintendent of Education of Ohio

I don't get it; especially since we have a new Chancellor, why do we need to add another layer that reports to the Governor. I find this bizarre. More information available here:

I am going to write Sawyer and Bender, members of the Board, since I know them both.

Can anyone offer some insight, especially since The State has a lot better things to do than play musical chairs?

the Chancellor deals with college level educational issues and goals for the state, the director of education would pursue matters pertaining to K-12 education.

2. oh, actually I think you're right, except there's the whole curriculum alignment movement, too

which is supposed to be getting high school curriculum aligned with employer needs, both post-secondary and vocational training....

I don't know, but I do have emails in to all the state legislators I know personally. I think it's more form over substance, and I heard this morning that Ohio has been ranked number one in educational assessment standards, and that we are doing an especially good job in improving teaching accountability.
