http://www.daytondailynews.com/search/content/gen/ap/OH_Ash_Borer.htmlHomeowners who lost hope of saving their ash trees are optimistic now that a new insecticide has shown success in fighting against a tree-killing beetle marching across the Midwest.
The insecticide won't help slow the spread of the emerald ash borer because it's too costly to use on the millions of trees that dot woodlots and forests, but it is an option for homeowners who want to try and save some of their prized trees.
New this year is an insecticide called Tree-age, which kills the beetle when its larvae eat tree tissue treated with the chemical.
The reason for the optimism is that tests last year at Michigan State University showed it killed more than 99 percent of ash borer larvae in treated trees.
