Gunman captured inside Willoughby South High School
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer

WILLOUGHBY -- Willoughby South High School was on lockdown this morning after a student fired a gun inside the building and threatened to kill himself.

Witnesses said an assistant principal pleaded with the student not to hurt himself.

Police captured the student after shots were fired but there were no injuries, according to witnesses.

Megan Gallagher, 18, said the student shot up the trophy case outside her classroom before putting a gun to his head.

According to Gallagher, Assistant Principal Jeff Lyons said to him, "Don't do it. Don't do it."

The first shots came about 9:40 a.m. Witnesses said the gunman went to several classrooms and said goodbye to students.

Officers searched the building room by room, and released students to a nearby baseball field.

Officials will get an accurate count of students there to make sure everyone is accounted for. Students will be sent home for the day, Superintendent Keith Miller said.

Students began boarding buses at 11:25 and were taken from the school.

Parents standing outside the building wondered what security measures would be added at the school, possibly metal detectors.

1. Not exactly my back door but close enough!
I hope the kid gets all the help he needs. Doesn't sound like he wanted to hurt anybody but himself!

9. more kids will die this month driving
than have ever been killed in school shootings. Maybe we should start posting every single car fatality where kids die speeding, drunk, or just from inexperience.

I bet more will die from drug overdose certainly alcohol related , both of which are illegal for minors....

Like shooting guns in public, maybe he thought it was legal and ok to do that??

12. Why do you always have to appear....
on any thread involving a shooting incident? You aren't changing any minds.

By the way, my husband graduated from there.

14. Remember, guns don't kill people
it's the bullets that they spit out. Of course, some of the gungeon dwellers will advocate everyone pack heat, and that gun control is so wrong.
