NATIONAL CHECK IF I CAN VOTE DAY
I am going to make it my goal to post this in all 50 state forums.

I am proposing that all liberal/progressive web sites, blogs and organizations along with all State and County Democratic Party chairs declare October 1, 2008 National check if i can vote day. By taking part in this national one day action, these groups would commit to either emailing, texting or phoning their supporters with a nudge to check on their ability to vote in this election. Just this past week there were two distressing items in the news. On Tuesday Yahoo reported that in New Jersey, 300,000 folks who had thought they were registered to vote, actually had been either purged or their registration never even entered into the voting data base. On Wednesday a Republican County Auditor out of Michigan stated that anyone who has had their home pout into foreclosure will be stripped from the voting rolls. Both of these states have been tending blue. We all remember the problems that took place in Florida in 2000 and in Ohio in 2004, this year it points to Colorado. I feel that by calling for this action we would accomplish three goals.

1) the practical aspect of making that each and everyone of our supporters is actually able to vote and doing so BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. By doing this on this day, it would give folks time to correct any problems that may crop up. Most states have a 30 or 14 day preregistration requirement in order to be able to vote.

2) if enough groups take part in this, it would achieve critical mass and then the main stream media would pick up on it. If that happens, we could then once again have spokespeople discuss the electoral manipulation that took place in the past two presidential elections.

3) it would put Republican State Secretary's of State, County Auditors and poll workers on notice that the progressive movement will be much more proactive in protecting our supporters voting rights and much more vigilant in securing the integrity of the electoral process this time around.

I know that this isn't a big things, but it could help. I am passionate ab out this as I feel it is a serious justice issue that goes to the core of our democracy. It wouldn't take much effort, just an email, text or call on an organizations part and on an individuals part, a few minutes to check and make sure they are STILL able to vote. In order for it to work it will take MASSIVE cooperation. If you feel this proposal has merit, please run with it as your own, tweak it to your perfection and SPREAD THE WORD to all blogs, web sites and groups that you know of. If you need more information please email me directly-pgtsndr@yahoo.com
