Blue Ohio does not translate to local victories.
While I was delighted to see crushing Dem. victories on the national level, we frankly got creamed in this suburban-to-rural county. All the R. incumbents were reelected. The only D. victory in a contested race was for county prosecutor who was reelected. He is a long-serving incumbent who ran against an unknown. Even his race was closer than it really should have been. In counties like this one, Obama was a drag on the ticket. Plus, I think a lot of the presidential voters did not know anything about local politics and just voted for president and left.

1. indeed
it was as if there were two different electorates, one national and the other local.

2. yes. I think we needed to do a better job of getting the
sample ballot out and work a little more on coordination. But we did get Boccieri. :-) So there is one seat that went R to D.

I don't think Obama was a drag on the ticket. He got more votes than Kerry in the rural county I was volunteering in. We just didn't capitalize on it in the right way.
