My heart still leaps for joy...
...every time I remember that we have a new young President, a fabulous First Lady, and a Secretary of State that rocks. I actually did not sleep much this week, with those visions turning over and over again in my mind.

AND... (drum rolls, my own "announcement")

I have found my own path, to feel like I'm doing my part for Ohio:

I have started a doctoral program,

and my dissertation topic will be:

Economic Impact of Colleges on Small Towns in Ohio.

I have long been bothered by all the lip service paid to the importance of education, higher, public, and otherwise, and the lack of political will to cut through the objections, and just get it done already. Perhaps some data about return on investment will be helpful.... A bit Machiavellian, but what the heck.

Happy Weekend!

1. Yellow Springs is going to miss Antioch
Things have gone oddly there in the course of the college trustees deciding to close the school. Ohio is going to miss Antioch. Their public radio station originated a lot of good programming. The school had a lot to show for itself in accomplishing social justice in our state.

Best wishes on your degree program!

2. Oh, Antioch
After having lived and worked in Oberlin for seventeen years, I feel like I know Antioch even though I have never been there.

I plan to look at how Antioch closing has affected the community....

Thanks for your well wishes!

4. yes, places like that.
I've done gigs at Wooster and Oberlin, and attended Mount Union. There have always been pained town-gown relations, and I have found that intruiging as well.
