A concrete platform under the announcer's box at the Columbus Motor Speedway collapsed about 5:15 p.m. today shortly after the gates opened to usher in the 2009 racing season.One woman was trapped under the platform rubble and injured. Six other people had minor injuries.Shortly after 6 p.m. the races were canceled for the night. They'd been scheduled to start at 7 p.m.Bystanders said the platform held about a dozen people. The grandstands hold about 4,000 people.Numerous medics and rescue squads were called to the scene at 1845 Williams Rd. in Obetz.Features races scheduled were the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series late models, Columbus Modifieds, Sport Stocks and Crazy Compacts.

1. Didn't the same thing happen al Lowe's Speedway, the NASCAR track in Charlotte?
I think it was after a NASCAR race that a pedestrian bridge collapsed with people on it and under it.
It was about 7 years ago if I recall.
