Parker goes after Schmidt's seat again
Posted by HowardWilkinson at 6/1/2009 10:02 AM EDT
Jim Parker, the health care administrator from the 2nd Congressional District's far eastern reaches, is going to make a third try at becoming next year's Democratic nominee in the district now held by Republican Jean Schmidt.

Parker, who lives in Waverly in Pike County, is the second Democrat to announce he will run in the 2010 primary. David Krikorian of Madeira, who ran as an independent against Schmidt in 2008, has announced he will run as a Democrat this year.

1. Kirkorian is running as a Democrat...
but last year he ran as an independent and prior to that was a registered republican. I have my doubts concerning Kirkorian.

Since Schmidt has been in office the there will be at least 4 or 5 Dem's running in the primaries. What typically happens is someone from Warren, Hamilton or Claremont county will win the Democratic primary because these counties have more voters and name recognition is a plus, but not necessarily a good thing. The real problem with the 2 Congressional District is there are too many republicans who support Schmidt from the most populace counties. The smaller counties in southeastern Ohio typically go Democratic but the larger counties go republican.

Living in the 2 Congressional District is extremely disappointing. Leaving in Warren County is even worse when it comes to politics. There are no Democrats in any elected office in Warren County. It has been this way since 1980.
