First of all don't get me wrong. I am a supporter of Gov. Ted Strickland and I will support and work to get him re-elected. That said.....the sad state of affairs Ohio is in just makes me cringe. Yes, I know alot of this came about under the tax, oops I mean Taft administration but one way Gov. Strickland can save millions of $$$$$$ in this state is to do away with medicaid managed care. IT'S A BIG JOKE!!!!! First of all "managed care" is when an insured selects a PCP(primary care physician) to manage their health care needs. Alot of managed care insurances require you to get: referrals from your PCP to see another physician, prior authorizations for expensive testing, hospital stays, surgery, psych. evaluations, physical therapy, any type of rehab.(cardiac, pulmonary etc.)so on and so on. If you fail to get the necessary referral or prior authorization your service will NOT be covered thus leaving you responsible for that bill. Those on the medicaid managed cares are to list a primary care physician (but don't worry, if they don't one will be assigned to them)see that Dr. for all your medical needs (but don't pay attention to that...you can still go where ever you want and see whoever you want)Stop unnecessary trips to the emergency room (but if you continue to abuse it, it will still be paid)and thus, just making the medicaid recipient more responsible and less abusive for the privilege of having health care coverage.
Save us poor taxpaying citizens alot of money and go back to the standard medicaid....it's what it is now only with 3 more insurance companies involved and the state of Ohio paying them to "manage" the medicaid recipients (which they do NOT)
I'm all for the medicaid program. I don't have a problem with those out there struggling to help themselves in low paying jobs to support a family receiving state funded assistance. It's those drug seeking (yes, that's what I said)lazy asses that sit at home all day not bothering to TRY to help themselves that get all the free rides.:grr:

health-care non-system, once you shared your point of frustration, you've resorted to some some stereotypic Puke talking point - Stop listening to RUSH. I'm going to have to unrecommend your post because most of those sitting at home now in Ohio don't want to be...and are doing the best they can to re-join a workforce that has for too long bullied them into a situation that is getting worse. Don't even think of flaming back, or most here will think you are a troll. Enjoy your stay.

To vent one's frustrations does not automatically make one a troll. Ckimmy has been posting on here for some time and has offered some great insight into the medical and insurance fields. Second she does not listen to Rush so the moment you threw that reference in there you started the flame war's. Not to mention the fact that you lost all credibility with me because its harder to debate someone and just so much easier to start name calling. Finally I share in ckimmy's frustrations towards those that have no desire to work and like her I feel sorry for those that have lost their jobs by no fault of their's. The point of her post was not to vent anger towards those that are jobless by no choice of their own but instead she is focusing her anger on those that are jobless by choice; those that continue to be a burden on the state because they simply do not want to work. I know how she feels I deal with these types of people EVERY DAY! I know the ones that are hardworking honest people that are down on their luck; they act a certain way and are more appreciative of what they are being afforded. I also know the ones that she talks about, the ones that expect to be handed something for nothing, to simply be given money and health care because they choose to sit at home all day. THAT was the point of her thread and a point I share. So please before you post read what is actually being type and not what you want it to say. Failure to do so indicates a predetermined desire to start a flame war where debate and honest opinion go straight out of the door.

3. Thanks for your support

Working in the health care field I get frustrated everyday seeing those that have worked and struggled not getting any help but those that do nothing get full coverage. I remember when President Clinton took office the medicaid system was totally revamped and this receiving $$$$$ and food stamps were required to go out and work for what they received. It cut down drastically on the amount of people on welfare (in our county anyway. Futhermore......No, I am NOT a troll. I am a registered Democrat and have been all my life.

4. How do you KNOW they're "doing nothing?"

Do you follow them around in their lives? Do you know what they're dealing with? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no, you don't. I lived in OH when I had the misfortune to need to be on Medicaid when my son was little (nearly lifelong Ohioan until moving out of state several years ago) and, while I was grateful to have it and would have been totally screwed if I hadn't, it was an extremely unpleasant experience the vast majority of the time. Any medical care my son and I got was, frankly, very trying ordeals and largely due to the attitudes of health care "professionals" who presumed to know me and my situation and my life simply due to my being on Medicaid. Rude, presumptous and disdainful don't begin to describe it. And even trying to find anyone who'd accept Medicaid was an ordeal in and of itself. I was treated like scum the majority of the time. I have never forgotten that and I'll always resent it like hell.

Also, there are a lot of desperate, hurting people there now with the unemployment rate rising into the double digits and showing no signs of relenting anytime soon; most of my family and friends still live there so I'm more than aware of how bad it is for so many. I'm sure there are a lot of people desperately searching for work and competing with tons of others and are either unable to find work or can only find work with no benefits and can't afford insurance. There are few things more frustrating and infuriating as to be in such a situation and doing everything you can, yet being told by someone who HAS a secure job that you're just not doing enough or you're being "lazy", the social/health care worker buzzword for "not like me."

Or stop and think for a minute? The poster said she has been in this field for 20 years, maybe she see's the same people OVER and OVER again. I am a liberal I care about other people but that does not mean I have to like it when an individual chooses not to work or be a productive member of society....those that are on hard times I support. Those that have milked the system for years....I do not support!

6. Yes, I read it, and yes, I understand somewhat where she's coming

from. And yes, there are those who do, indeed, milk the system. But I also know that she doesn't know everyone she sees, their circumstances and situations, and she doesn't have the right to make blanket judgments.

Perhaps I'm too close to the issue emotionally, having had to deal with rude, disdainful, judgmental and contemptuous providers during the several years my son and I were on Medicaid, and seeing others having to deal with the same things, when the workers did not know our circumstances or situation. I was very grateful for the assistance, but I was also very glad to finally be in the position to get off of it as well.
