Boy's Poodle 'Fried to Death' at Ohio Dog Groomer
Source: Fox News

Young Josh Jones was excited for his best friend Miles, a toy poodle, to receive a new haircut at the groomer. In a horrible turn of events, though, the dog never came home.

When Jones’ cousin arrived to pick up the dog Friday afternoon at Pet’s Choice in Parma, Ohio, groomers nervously told her the dog was dead, according to MyFOXNational. The dog had “fried to death” in the blow-dryer.

“The groomer left the dog in the drying cage and left… didn’t tell anybody,” Pet’s Choice owner Jim Detlich told MyFoxNational. The dog was in the blow-dryer for almost an hour, much longer than the standard 10 to 15 minutes.

Jones’ mother, Narsina, was horrified. She said the boy and dog were “inseparable.”.....

Our suburbs and rural areas are loaded with Teabirthers, bullies, crooked politicians of both stripes and racists of all kinds. Neighboring Westlake and Bay Village are giant Kool-Aid vats.

37. Strongsville.
Every fucking time a Neocon candidate stops in Northern Ohio it's always in fucking Strongsville.

Red and somewhat upper middle-class. The kind of showcase red area they always stop in for a rally in Northern Ohio. As compared to Parma or Brunswick which have more of the crazy rube types that they still clutch on to.

Bush I's asshole security tactics were the first red flag to me when he stopped by in 1992.

I know some nice folks in Strongsville, Brunswick, and Parma...but I've lived 18 years of my life in those three cities...I know the kind of crazy red they got going on.

Local Fox station - btw if you can stand it video report here - pictures of the boy with his dog - how horrible. Poor kid, poor dog. Man these kind of stories make me furious.

That stupid employee - I don't know what would be just punishment for her - what an idiot. And what an idiot shop - they should be made to get out of the grooming business.

Ozzy, my schnoodle, went to the groomer yesterday. If I had gone to pick him up and discovered ... no, I can't even go there. :-(

On edit: I don't understand. It says she left the dog in drying cage and didn't tell anyone. It sounds like other people were there. How could this happen? The dog must have been making some kind of noise while he was burning to death!

My groomer is over 20 miles from where I live. I started going there 13 years ago because at the time, I was in that area often and it made sense to bring him there. When I no longer had any reason to be in the area, I still took him there because I trusted the groomer and he seemed comfortable with her. I didn't want to stress him out by switching to another groomer.

Last year, I lost my poodle to cancer and a few month later, I got Ozzy. When it came time for his first grooming, so many people said, "Don't drive all that way for a groomer. That's stupid! Gas is too expensive and your health isn't great." I considered it ... briefly ... but after hearing several "bad groomer" stories (dog ended up with fleas, dog had severe razor burn, groomer got too much water in the dog's lungs while bathing and he drowned), there was no question where Ozzy would go for his grooming. I drive the 20+ miles to the groomer I know I can trust.

12. The dangers of automation
This would not have happened with an old fashioned hand held dryer, and a worker who actually, you know, did his or her job.

Anyone who has a dog that they take to the groomer should make sure they don't use such a device.

13. Drying cages should be outlawed -- so many dogs have died from this...
I tell my pet care clients to inspect a groomer's facility before leaving their dog or cat and to never leave a dog in the care of a groomer who uses a drying cage.

No living creature should be put in a drying cage. They are not inantimate objects.

On edit:

Man On A Mission After Pet Dies In Drying Cage

After losing his beloved "Bailey," a Long Island man is pushing for stronger rules for dog groomers.

Bruckner said he researched and found more than a dozen dogs that died in cage driers, including Phoebe, a 3-year-old shih-tzu from Brooklyn.

Phoebe's death sparked a bill introduced by New York State Sen. Carl Krueger, which would not only ban cage driers, it would also mandate vocational licensing for groomers.

Bruckner has now launched a campaign and Web site called badgroomers.com to help get the bill passed into law.

"If the groomers had been trained this wouldn't have occurred," Bruckner said. "Had the groomers been licensed this wouldn't have occurred."

16. Wouldn't that actually be 'baked' rather than 'fried'?
And yes, I do see how such a thing could be overlooked. The hot air blower would not be torturing the dog - otherwise, the standard time would not be 15 minutes. What happened is the dog dehydrated in the drying chamber, got over heated, and died. Much like being left in a hot car.

Reading some of the reactions here, it's as if they think the girl stuck him in a microwave or something. Who knows how she made such a terrible mistake, but that is all it was - just a tragic accident.

No way is this just an accident. This is negligent behavior from someone who is being paid to do a job. I think the reaction, you are seeing, comes from people who could not imagine losing a pet to such irresponsibility.

Getting overheated to death was not torture?!?! Cooking from the inside out is somehow less agony than burned skin? Not that we don't know whether or not that poor dog's skin wasn't burned. :grr:

You try hanging out in a desert at midsummers day for a while and find out what real dehydration and overheating feel like.

What a phenomenally ignorant thing to believe and say.

A terrible mistake?!?! She "accidentally" left the dog in the drier?!?!

It was gross neglect. Horrific way to die. Deserving of maximum punishment for cruelty to animals.

If you cannot grasp the difference between accidentally leaving one dog in a drying cage (what a horrible device, btw! Jeez!) and the systematic breeding and fighting of dogs on a commercial scale for profit and entertainment then you need to get some perspective.
