CLEVELAND -- On Thursday, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District announced that they are evaluating cost saving options in an effort to prevent staff layoffs.
Cleveland schools CEO Dr. Eugene Sanders announced that the district is exploring furloughs and wage reductions for its non-union employees.
The District faces a $52.8 million deficit for the 2010 - 2011 school year.
Just last month, the CMSD announced their transformation plan. Cost saving measures from the plan included the decision to close several CMSD school buildings. A decision which drew the ire of many parents whose children attend those schools.
The district expects those closures alone to address approximately 40 percent of the deficit.
