(Washington) -- Only one Ohio member of congress crossed party lines on his vote on the health care bill. It's Democrat Zack Space of Dover (see photo), whose district stretches southwest to include Zanesville and Chillicothe.

Space says the vast majority of phone calls to his office have been against the bill. Space says he personally doesn't like the bill for the way it taxes the middle class instead of the wealthy, and he feels it's a windfall for insurance companies.

The rest of Ohio’s congressional delegation voted right along party lines, including those from Greater Cleveland. Republican Steve LaTourette voted against the bill, Democrats Marcia Fudge, Dennis Kucinich, Betty Sutton and John Boccieri voted for it, with Kucinich and Boccieri only making their choices known in the past week.

1. dem voters & unions please unplug from Zack Space
Space (congressman from OH-18) says a majority of the people who called his office did not want this health care bill, he does not need our support. The majority of callers who called his office will support him in Nov.

Unions irked at Ohio Democrat over health care

COLUMBUS, Ohio

Two unions representing tens of thousands of Ohio workers said Monday they would no longer support the state's only Democratic congressman to oppose President Barack Obama's health care bill.

U.S. Rep. Zack Space betrayed union members who campaigned for him in 2006 and 2008, said the Service Employees International Union and the United Food and Commercial Workers union.

"A no vote on health care is an anti-worker vote," said Allison Petonic, spokeswoman for Columbus-based UFCW Local 1059, which has 18,000 members working in food retailing and processing in Ohio. That includes 1,500 people living in Space's district, she said.

If an elected representative cannot get behind his/her party on important legislation that helps the country, then we don't need them representing us.

Please DO NOT DONATE to Space.

3. too late. the filing deadline has passed.
It is a pretty red district - Don't know how he's gonna fix this. We will probably lose that seat if the base and the Unions don't feel like he has their best interest in mind.

4. there is a way out, we can run an independent
we can contact the DCCC and ask them not to send Space campaign funds.

Since a majority of the voters in most districts are registered as independents, the party gets behind the I candidate and she/he would caucus with the dems if elected.
