Delaware County commissioners fire administrator

DELAWARE, Ohio --The Delaware County commissioners, at a rancorous meeting this morning, fired longtime county Administrator David Cannon effective immediately, but refused to say why.

Commissioners Tommy Thompson and Todd Hanks voted to dismiss the administrator. Commissioner Ken O'Brien voted against the termination.

Cannon did not do anything legally wrong or improper, Thompson said afterward, when pressed to explain the firing. Rather, it was time for a change in direction, he said.

Cannon started as county administrator Dec. 14, 1998, and was paid $100,863 annually. As administrator, he served at the will of the commissioners....
