Representative John Murtha (RIP) was way too accomodating of the weapons and aerospace industry. America was way overfunding satellite programs: spy satellites are way expensive and ineffective. Money is better spent on foreign language translators.
In the Senate, Ohio is going to have the Senator who spoke at all of the anti war rallies in Cleveland. Good morning.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Oh., says his recent appointment to the Senate Appropriations Committee and U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan's rising star on the House Appropriations Committee can deliver a combination punch in Congress that Ohio and the Mahoning Valley hasn't seen in decades.
"Congressman Ryan and I both will be working together to figure out how to leverage federal dollars to help better train young people for the kinds of job opportunities of the future," Brown said after a roundtable discussion with about 20 business and community leaders at the Youngstown Business Incubator.

Brown was selected July 22 to fill the seat on Appropriations left vacant by the death of U.S. Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W. Va. He's the first Democrat from Ohio to sit on the committee since 1897.
Ryan, D-17, was vaulted earlier this year to the House Appropriations subcommittee on defense following the death of its chairman, U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa. Ryan was able to secure more than $35 million for the district in defense-related earmarks for the Mahoning Valley in the latest defense appropriations bill.
