Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner announced Monday she has ordered an investigation of a local McDonald's franchise owner who endorsed Republican candidates in a payday letter to his employees

Brunner said her involvement comes after Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern requested a criminal investigation of franchise owner Paul Siegfried and the letter he gave to his workers.
On Friday, Siegfried, owner of several McDonald's restaurants in Stark County, apologized through his attorney. He said he had no intention of violating election laws when he included with his employees' paychecks a letter recommending the election of Republican candidates John Kasich for governor, Rob Portman for U.S. Senate and Jim Renacci for the 16th District seat in the House of Representatives.
Democrats said the letter violates state elections laws governing employer influence and intimidation of workers.
